Why Boredom is Not a Sign You Should Try Harder?
Have you ever found yourself bored with a job or relationship and tried everything you could to reignite a spark of enthusiasm, all to no avail? If so, you are not alone. This piece will explore why boredom does not mean you should try harder.
The Truth About Boredom
Everyone, at some point or another, has experienced the uninspiring feeling of the monotonous, mundane routine that can lead you into a downward spiral into boredom. For some, boredom came as a surprise, whereas others can feel its long, drawn-out arrival over some time. Be it a job, relationship, or any of the many other things that once sparked immense joy, boredom imparts a feeling of disinterest and disconnection that can leave you pining for something to captivate your interest. Most revert to doing anything they can to revert things to how they used to be. When it’s time for a change, we must go with the flow of life, as resistance only amplifies the intensity of what’s not working in our favor until we are left with no choice but to make a change.
The truth about boredom is that it is a signal for change. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t mean we should change ourselves to fit into whatever situation, circumstance, or relationship we’re being pushed to release. It means it’s time to do something different. In all of our doing, we have lived and loved, learned, and gleaned all the lessons we possibly can, and it is time for a change.
Far too often, we cling to jobs, relationships, and partnerships that have long ceased to be of service to our highest good. Out of longstanding loyalty and commitment, we fight tooth and nail to reignite the spark that has long since been extinguished. Only to regulate ourselves to continue to suffer until we arrive at a crossroads where we have no choice but to yield to what we have been called to do. It adds up to stepping out of the familiar to the unknown boldly. Like myself, if you, too, have found yourself in this space, I assure you that you are not alone.
Much like the shells that one would find dispersed along the beach, diverse animal species abandon their shells not because they have died but because they’ve outgrown a particular phase and have released what they’ve outgrown to make space for continued growth. Thankfully there is good news. Much like shelled animals, we are free to release what no longer serves as needed to make space for what lies beyond our current paradigm.
Although we don’t always know what lies on the other side, if we shift our beliefs to expand our perception beyond what we’ve always done, we free ourselves to use our imagination to vision and invite something greater into our experience. Within the depths of our imagination, we can visualize and access the infinite possibilities that lie within our imagination. Within this space lies boundless opportunities to feel into and manifest the desires beyond what we may have previously believed possible. The more we access the vibration of our desired intent, the more we vibrate and attract it to manifest into our experience.
Practice
Whenever boredom arises, take a few breaths and observe what’s seeking to express through you. In all of its discomfort, it’s a signal that time for change. Observe and breathe through the discomfort. Designate time to journal and explore what areas in your life are calling for change. Release any belief that you must endure longstanding suffering for any reason.
Whether you feel called to make a change around your particular line of work or relationships, or you’re looking to branch out on your own to explore the realm of entrepreneurship, acknowledge and embrace any fear of the unknown, and allow what you feel to inform you. Knowing that its presence doesn’t mean that you should not or can not do it; it simply means that it’s something you’ve never encountered. Everything you could ever need is already within, breathe through any discomfort and take the first step, and you will be guided and supported every step of the way; you are never alone.
Gentle reminder:
It’s ok to feel fear, don’t allow it to cause you to forget who you really are.
