From the quality of the foods we eat, the cadence of our speech, and every manner in which we experience and interact with life, everything is energy. Be it trees, flowers, animals, insects, and inanimate objects, we all share similar components. We are all interconnected. The only difference is that we as humans, experience energy through our awareness, as our bodies are continually exchanging energy, and information, with our environment. Our nervous system is so in-tune with our awareness that it allows us to sense, interact, and experience energy by way of our thoughts, emotions, and feelings.
“Even though the body appears to be material, it is not. In the deeper reality, your body is field of energy, transformation and intelligence.”
-Deepak Chopra
Practically everyone is familiar, with the power of intention, when it comes to manifestation. Be it meditation, yoga, mindfulness, or breath work, wellness practices are universally rooted in intention. Beyond the auspices of manifestation, intention is behind every single thing that we do. Movement, exercise, speech, thought, and all manner of activities are propelled by the energetic force of will, which fuels our intention. Will is the energetic force within, that carries out our intention. Everything we do is an act of will. From the ineffable ways in which we move, communicate, experience, interact, and live in the world, is all because we will ourselves to do so.
“Everything is within your power, and your power is within you.”
-Janice Trachtman
Before we can lift one finger, we first must subconsciously set our intention for it to take place. If not for the power of will, we would be a motionless being, unable to move, interact, or experience our environment. Our nervous system neurologically transmits a signal with such force and rapidity that it subconsciously fulfills our will within a matter of milliseconds. Subconsciously using intention to interact with our environment and move about within the world, is one thing. Using intention to achieve our goals in the midst of situations, and circumstances that are outside of our control is another.
Much like our subconscious process, we have the inner strength and fortitude to access and use our power to consciously set, and use intent to manifest our desires. This process is brought about through the power of attention and intention. Where your attention goes your energy flows. What you fully give your attention, grows. Whereas, whatever you take your attention away from, gradually withers until it disappears from your awareness.
“Set your intention, and trust the universe to take care of the details.”
-Mike Fotheringham
Conscious awareness empowers us to use attention and intention to bring our desires into manifestation. The drive to consciously set an intention begins with our desire to bring someone, or something into our experience. The quality of our intention coupled with the object of our attention enables us to use manifestation to co-create with the universe.
Unlike goals which have the propensity to be SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound), and rigid, conscious intent lays the foundation which supports the universe it energetically bring it into manifestation.
Much like goals, desire is coupled with attention that is attached to a preconceived outcome. In most instances we use our imagination to mentally create an intricate picture of what we desire to invite into our experience. Intention that is detached from an outcome provides the universe with the spaciousness that allows it to energetically create whatever you desire.
The Challenges that Come with Manifesting Your Intention
“Every moment of your life is infinitely creative and the Universe is endlessly bountiful. Just put forth a clear enough request and everything your heart desires must come to you.”
-Shakti Gawain
Outwardly the process of setting an intention without attachment, may seem simplistic. However, there are many complex processes at play that threaten to derail your progress. In theory cultivating, and maintaining your attention, on a singular focus, sounds easy. But our lives are multidimensional, and at any given moment we can be growing a baby, caring for our family, cooking, raising children, juggling career, work-life balance, and elderly parents. So much is at play, in our day to day lives, that simultaneously competes for our attention.
In the midst of all that we have going on, any efforts to remain steadfast with a singular focus on our intention, can often times feel futile. The key to holding a one pointed intention, is to not allow any obstacles to reduce the quality of your attention. In other words, do not allow the quality of your present experience to derail your intention.
“By banishing doubt and trusting your intuitive feelings, you clear a space for the power of intention to flow through.”
-Wayne Dyer
On so many levels, it is easier said than done. Life can sometimes comes at you fast, and easily cloud our ability to envision what is possible. Despite any evidence, that may lead you to believe that your intention is simply not meant to be, you must simultaneously remain attentive, detached from the outcome, and rooted within the present moment.
Here are 4 Steps to Fulfilling your intention
Designate a specific space and time to consistently rest in the silence to center your awareness within the present moment.
This is a form of self love, that allows for you to consciously withdraw your attention away from the noise of distractions and onto the present moment.
In essence, this mindfulness meditation practice. There is no one size fits all approach, as it can be done in a number of ways; walking, siting upright in a chair, a cushion, or lying flat.
Hold your intention as a Sacred Practice
Co-creating your intention with the universe is a sacred practice that should be revered as a sacred practice. At any given moment, there are multiple distractions that threaten to derail our intention. Holding your intention close at hand, is key to maintaining a one-pointed focus.
Get clear on your intentions
Our desires can vary at any moment in time. From immediate to long-term goals. The scope and depth of our desires can run the gamut. Using journaling to go within, and tap into your desires by asking empowering questions provides the spaciousness that allows you to gain clarity beyond material gain.
Release your intention within the still of the Silence
Enter into the silence of practice to release your intention within the silence of the present moment. Even if your attention waivers, redirect your attention away from distractions and back onto the present moment.
An Invitation to Reflect
Allow me take a moment to invite you to journey with me to reflect back, to a time in your life, where you may have possibly fell head over hills for someone, from afar. Regardless of how long it may have possibly been, revisit a time where you observed someone from afar, and was simply enamored by their mere existence. Although you may not have personally interacted with them at the time, there was just something about their vibe, that captivated your attention. On all accounts it was an indescribable vibe that had you convinced that if, and when, the stars aligned, this person could very well be, the one.
You simply needed to find a way to make your presence known, to bridge the gap and evolve from mere strangers to friends, eventually allowing space for it to manifest. Only it did not quite play out as you expected. As time passes, and you become more acquainted, it soon becomes apparent that the idealized fantasy that you intricately imaged is a delusion.
In fact this person is nothing like what you imagined. In actuality they turn out to be the very last person that you could ever see yourself with. Disillusioned and somewhat relieved, you quickly redraw your attention, and intention. Almost instantly, it is almost as it if it never happened. This is primarily due to the interrelation between energy and attention. You used the power of will to withdraw your intention, dissolving your attention. What once consumed your thoughts, and attention, is now likely a distant memory from the past.
